ORIGIN OF THE RAW MATERIALS USED TO PRODUCE BERG & BERG ENGINEERED WOOD FLOORING
Since Berg & Berg are deeply rooted in Sweden, they almost exclusively use domestic wood for their engineered wood flooring production. In this way, as well as having a thorough knowledge of the wood used, they are strongly aware of the positive, ecological effects of their business. Up to 95% of the oak, ash, silver maple, beech and domestic red oak for the top layers of their natural floors come from their own sawmill in Eringsboda. Berg & Berg source the trees from Sweden, Denmark and northern Germany. These trees travel the short distance to the port of Ronneby by ship. From there, the sawmill is very close by.
The pine and spruce for the middle and back layers come without exception from native Sweden. Birchwood, which is used to reinforce the ends of the boards, comes from small operations in their region where they are growing.
IT GROWS ON YOU
The production of flooring from real wood is more costly than that of laminate flooring. Engineered flooring, however, offers numerous ecological and aesthetic advantages. Wood is a renewable resource which, due to its inherent CO² storage capability, works to counter the global warming effects of greenhouse gases. For this reason Berg & Berg only uses wood from sustainable managed forests.
The use of their own sawmill for processing is essential for both ecological and aesthetic reasons. It is the care with which Berg & Berg selects its trees that gives Berg & Berg flooring its natural radiance. It makes every Berg & Berg floor one of a kind.
FSC-CERTIFICATION
Berg & Berg wood from sensitive regions (e.g. tropical rain forests) is FSC-certified. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) strictly controls the origin of the wood: In certified forests only so many trees are felled as are re-grown, while showing careful consideration to maintaining ecological diversity.
